Inspection Procedures
Follow these detailed inspection procedures to ensure a thorough check of your vacuum truck's critical systems.
Vacuum Pump System Check
- Visually inspect pump for external damage or leaks
- Check oil level in sight glass (should be 1/2 to 3/4 full)
- Verify oil color is appropriate (not milky or dark)
- Inspect drive belts for proper tension (1/2" deflection)
- Engage PTO and gradually increase vacuum to operating level
- Listen for abnormal noises during operation
- Verify vacuum reaches and maintains required level
Tank Inspection Method
- Open tank door after ensuring tank is not under pressure
- Inspect door gasket for damage, cuts, or deformation
- Check interior with appropriate lighting source
- Verify primary and secondary shutoff balls move freely
- Inspect cyclone separator for debris and damage
- Check debris screens and filters for blockages
- Verify all interior baffles and supports are intact
Hose Inspection Technique
- Visually examine hose exterior for cuts, abrasions, and wear
- Flex hose to check for hardened areas or cracks
- Inspect couplings for damage and security
- Check gaskets and O-rings in all connections
- Verify quick connects engage properly and hold pressure
- Examine interior for debris or blockages
- Confirm all required hose attachments are present
Safety System Verification
- Test all emergency stop buttons (both sides of truck)
- Verify high level shutoff system functions correctly
- Check vacuum relief valve operation at proper setting
- Test interlock systems (PTO, door safety, etc.)
- Confirm pressure gauges are readable and appropriate
- Verify proper function of remote operations (if equipped)
- Check all safety placards and warning labels are legible

Vacuum Truck Maintenance Guidelines
These guidelines outline recommended maintenance tasks to complement your prestart inspections. Following these schedules helps prevent equipment failures and extends the service life of your vacuum truck.
Daily Maintenance
- Check all fluid levels before starting engine
- Drain moisture from air tanks
- Clean cyclone separator and debris screens
- Flush water system if used for hazardous materials
- Grease boom pivot points (if applicable)
- Clean exterior of vacuum tubes and connectors
Weekly Maintenance
- Check vacuum pump oil for contamination
- Inspect drive belts for wear and tension
- Lubricate all fittings on vacuum pump
- Check hydraulic system for leaks
- Clean vacuum relief valves
- Inspect tank door seal and hinges
Monthly Maintenance
- Change vacuum pump oil
- Clean primary and secondary shutoff screens
- Check all electrical connections
- Inspect hydraulic cylinders for leaks
- Test safety interlock systems
- Examine hoses for internal wear
Quarterly Maintenance
- Service vacuum relief valves
- Inspect tank interior for corrosion
- Service water pump system
- Check boom cylinder operation and seals
