Inspection Areas and Steps
Front Section
- Check windshield for cracks, chips, and visibility
- Test headlights, indicators, and grille condition
- Inspect hood latches, bumper, and license plate
Driver and Passenger Sides
- Inspect mirrors, door locks, and handles
- Check reflective tape, side marker lights, and panel condition
- Look for leaks under the body
Rear Section
- Test taillights, brake lights, and turn signals
- Verify mud flaps, ICC bar, and rear bumper
- Inspect license plate and reflective markers
Tires and Wheels
- Check tire inflation and tread depth
- Inspect rims, valve stems, and lug nuts
- Ensure no damage or wear to sidewalls
Trailer Coupling
- Inspect fifth wheel, release handle, and kingpin connection
- Verify air/electrical lines and safety chains
- Check clearance and secure fit
Documentation and Markings
- Check visibility of DOT numbers, decals, placards
- Verify registration, IFTA, and inspection stickers
- Ensure company branding is intact and legible
Certification
Upon completing the exterior inspection, document all findings and defects. Inspector must certify that all key components have been checked and the vehicle meets visual compliance standards or note areas needing correction.
