Inspection Overview
This procedure outlines the key steps and test points for assessing the roadworthiness of light and heavy-duty vehicles. It ensures that vehicles are safe for operation, environmentally compliant, and conform to legal requirements.
Standard Inspection Components
- Exterior Condition: Bodywork, mirrors, glass, and number plates are intact and properly secured.
- Lighting and Signals: All lights must function correctly, including brake, indicator, hazard, and reverse lamps.
- Braking System: Inspection of service brakes, handbrake, lines, pads, and ABS indicators.
- Suspension and Steering: Free from excessive play, noise, or leakage.
- Tires and Wheels: Correct pressure, minimum tread depth, and no sidewall damage.
- Engine and Transmission: No visible leaks, secure mounts, smooth operation.
- Exhaust and Emissions: System integrity, noise levels, smoke limits, OBD compliance.
- Cabin & Dashboard: Instrumentation, warning lights, HVAC, and driver controls.
- Safety Equipment: Seat belts, airbags, horn, wipers, fire extinguisher (if required).
Functional Tests
- Brake efficiency test using rollers or road test method
- Headlight alignment and function test
- Emissions test via tailpipe or OBD-II scan
- Suspension bounce test for all corners
- Parking brake holding test on incline
Compliance Certification
After successful completion of the inspection, all results must be recorded in the inspection log and signed by the authorized inspector. A certificate of roadworthiness may be issued for vehicles that meet all required criteria.
